Summer House

Posting photos of the outside of the house during the summer to show all the landscaping and gardens. Both of the veggie gardens are organic.

The (mostly) finished house

I finally had the opportunity to photograph the house even though its not 100% finished. I figured better late than never, and it just so happens to be decorated for Halloween, so that makes it look more finished than it is. We have not had the chance to decorate and furnish the place like I want and we only have our old furniture that we brought from Arizona, none of which looks right in this house so most of it is for sale on Craig’s list if you are interested (ha).

And because I really hated generating all of that trash, I wanted to reuse as many things as I could. I reused all the kitchen cabinets, sanded and painted them and gave them new knobs and now they are in my laundry area being used as storage.

I reused this mirror that was in the vanity

We kept some of the shutter style doors, repurposed them in the house, donated all of the old appliances to Habitat for Humanity and everything else that could not be recycled was put on the curb and taken by people.

So that brings our remodel to an almost end. Now we just have the fun of working out all the “new” house things, oh the joys of owning a house… I hope you enjoy seeing this transformation much as we did.

Long time, no post..

So I realize that it has been quite some time since I updated this blog and one of the reasons is that the house is 98% done and I wanted to take pics when it was completed. So here are a few shots that have not been posted yet, and hopefully by the end of next month the house should be “done”.

Moving along

The progress is going slower than we want since we are living in the house now. Each morning I am greeted with strangers working in the house while we are living out of the 2 back rooms and a bathroom with no door. I know, it sounds too good to be true, right?

Here are pics of the progress:

Rusty

Sorry for not posting in quite some time, so much has been happening at the house and we are on our last day at the rental house. We have been painting, moving, fixing and cleaning…. and there is little time for anything else.

Today is the last day I have access to my computer before we get internet hooked up in a week so I wanted to do one last post before then.

The next 2 weeks will continue to be chaotic as we will be living in the house while it is getting finished. We will not have a kitchen for another 2 weeks nor will our master bath be done until then as well. We will have to wait to reno the guest bath until later. The work will not be completed (if ever) until the middle of June. Good times!

Anyways, on to something weird and creepy. (p.s. this is Gordon’s project)

Meet Rusty:

Rusty

Rusty

Rusty was found in the floor joists in the basement while Gordon was cleaning. He fell from theĀ ceilingĀ and thus began his photo essay.

Where the toilet will live.

On the basement floor after the carpet was removed. We discovered that the glue used to adhere the carpet may contain asbestos, so the glue was scraped and the paneling was removed and we poured new concrete over the glue.

In the master bath entry

This is the old pantry cabinet in the kitchen above the basement stairs. We have been using it for our storage during the renovations. This is where Rusty lives when he is not posing for Gordon’s photos.

2 Weeks away from move in

Last week at the house they were finishing up on the mechanical part, the electrical, plumbing and insulation. This week things are starting to look like a house. The drywall has gone up and you can really see what the rooms are going to look like, the siding is finished, the gutters and shutters are on, and we are working on repairing the yard.
